Events

The following events have been organised for 2024 and we look forward to seeing you:

Wassail  – Saturday January 20th

Come and join us for this English Custom to awaken the apple trees and encourage them to bear fruit this year. There will be music and dancing from Bourne Borderers, hot drinks and cakes, we will be awakening the trees and generally making lots of noise and having lots of fun – so please join us if you can. Wrap up warmly, wear sensible footwear (the orchard can be muddy), bring a torch, something to make noise with, a mug for the drinks and some change if you can for the donation bucket. Meet Community Orchard at 4:30pm

AGM – Wednesday February 21st

Your chance to learn what we do, and help us do it! Room 5, Wake House 6.45pm.

Spring Flower Foray – Sunday April 21st

Roland Stevens will lead a saunter around the woods looking at the spring flowers – arguably the best flower show of the year! Meet 2pm, main car park. Donation of £2 appreciated.

Blossom Day – Sunday May 5th

Join us to enjoy the blossom in the Community Orchard. Bring a picnic, a blanket or chair and enjoy the peace and beauty of the orchard. There will be some children’s activities (weather permitting). 12pm to 2pm, Community Orchard, off Beech Avenue. Free but donations welcome.

Solstice Walk – Friday June 21st

A gentle guided walk around the woods in the evening to experience the quiet of the woods as dusk approaches at this special time of year. Meet 8.30pm, main car park. Donation of £2 appreciated.

Mini Beast Hunt – Sunday July 28th

Come and hunt for bugs, beetles and butterflies, and have them identified by Keith Porter. Suitable for all, children are particularly good at finding insects! There will be a limited number of nets to use. Meet 2pm, main car park. Donation of £2 appreciated per person.

Elephant Hunt – Sunday August 18th

Come and find an elephant! After the fun of last year’s event this has been organised again, £1 per chance to find your own elephant. 2pm to 4pm. Community Orchard, off Beech Avenue Bourne.

Apple Day – Sunday October 13th

Enjoy the atmosphere of the orchard – fruit, stalls, children’s activities. All welcome. Suggested donations for activities. 12pm to 4pm.

Fungi Foray – Sunday November 3rd

Led by Dr Vin Fleming – a chance to look for and collect and identify fungi from the wood. Bring a basket to collect fungi if you can, meet 2pm in the main car park. Donations of £2 per person appreciated.

Maintaining the willow sculpture – Date & time to be advised

Help us look after this living sculpture. No experience necessary as guidance will be given. Meet Forest Office, Beech Ave, Bourne. Tools provided, please bring gardening gloves and a drink.
