The following events have been organised for 2025 and we look forward to seeing you:
Wassail – Saturday January 4th
Come and join us for this English Custom to awaken the apple trees and encourage them to bear fruit this year. There will be music and dancing from Bourne Borderers, hot drinks and cakes, we will be awakening the trees and generally making lots of noise and having lots of fun – so please join us if you can. Wrap up warmly, wear sensible footwear (the orchard can be muddy), bring a torch, something to make noise with, a mug for the drinks and some change if you can for the donation bucket. Meet Community Orchard at 4:30pm
Bird Walk – Monday 21th April
A gentle walk led by Vaughan Roberts, listening to and hopefully seeing some of the avian inhabitants of our wood. Meet at the main car park 10am.
Evening Flower Walk – Wednesday May 14th
Meeting in the main car park at 7pm, we will then have a short walk led by Roland Stevens looking at the spring flowers, an experienced guide with time for questions.
Solstice Walk – Saturday June 21st
A gentle guided walk around the woods in the evening to celebrate this time of year experience the quiet of the woods as dusk approaches. Feel free to dress up to celebrate the occasion. Meet 8.30pm, Beech Ave Entrance (Community Orchard).
Bugs and Beasties Hunt – Sunday 3rd August
Keith Porter will help you distinguish your woodlice from your weevils, your beetles from your butterflies, and much more. There are a limited number of nets so come early to enjoy the fun. This activity has been particularly enjoyed by children in the past. Meet up in the main car park at 2pm.
Elephant Hunt – Sunday 31st August
Come and find an elephant! After the fun of last year’s event this has been organised again, £1 per chance to find (and keep) your own elephant. Community Orchard, off Beech Avenue Bourne 2pm to 4pm.
Wellbeing Wander – Wednesday 10th September
A slow woodland wander incorporating forest bathing practices. Join creative wellbeing practitioner Louisa Chase in a woodland experience to benefit body, mind and spirit and strengthen connection with the natural world. Ideal for relaxation and supporting mental health. There will not be a focus on identifying flora and fauna in this session.
Meet at the Community Orchard Entrance off Beech Avenue at 10:30am (to 12:30). Booking suggested, please email louisachase@gmail.com.
Apple Day – Sunday 5th October
Enjoy the atmosphere of the orchard, just off Beech Avenue – fruit, stalls, children’s activities. More details nearer the time. 12pm to 4pm.
Bourne Celebration Days – 11th and 12th October
The Friends of Bourne Wood will be involved. Come and see us with comments, ideas and some activities.
Maintaining the Willow Sculpture – Date to be advised
Help us look after this living sculpture. No experience necessary as guidance will be given. Meet Forest Office, Beech Ave, Bourne. Tools provided, please bring gardening gloves and a drink.
